God is Always at Work

Stewart and I were talking at breakfast yesterday morning about a situation in our church that was frustrating me. I asked him, "Why is this happening?" His reply turned my frustrations into hope. "Because God is at work."

Yes, even in the middle of frustrations, God is at work. When a problem seems to be hopeless, God is at work. When a person has walked away from you or the faith, be assured that God is still at work. Even if it seems that He's not working, He is at work behind the scenes. His word promises us that He is. "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭19‬) If it seems like there is no way, God will make a way.

One dark Friday 2000 years ago, a band of rag-tag men and some women witnessed their Leader be arrested, beaten, convicted of crimes He did not commit, and then hung on a cruel cross to die like a common criminal. It seemed as if all was lost. All hopes were dashed. There was no way this could turn out for good. Yet three days later, everything changed.

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words. (‭Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭1-8‬)

Happy Easter, ya'll!
