Here's the Story:Part Two

A week or two after the semi-formal, the girl fell ill. Finals were drawing closer, and honestly, the whole semester had just been disastrous. The girl was lying in her dorm bed one night, feeling particularly horrible, when something almost unbelievable happened. Now this girl was a Christian and grew up in church, but nothing like this had ever happened in her life.

The girl felt the Lord speaking to her in her spirit.

"Why have I sent you to this new church?"

"Well, Lord," she replied in awe, "You wanted me to find a church home. You wanted me to have a job, and I'm very grateful for it! You wanted me to have a church family and experience what it's like to be in a church that's alive and on fire for You."

"No, that's not it."

"It's not, Lord?"

"This boy is the one I have for you."

Silence.

Him? This preacher boy? The one that she had been hanging out with all this time? But what about what was at home? Wasn't that what should be? And if he is going to be a preacher, that would make her...A PREACHER'S WIFE?! No, no, no, no!!!

After the shock of all of this wore off, she thought this proclamation from the Lord would be followed by immediate action. But that was not to be. In fact, this girl waited one whole year before anything happened. Then finally one day, the boy said, "You know, Star Wars is coming back out on the big screen for its 20th anniversary."

"Yeah, I've heard that," she replied.

"We should go do that," he said.

She replied with glee, "Yes, we should!"

She had no idea if this was a date or not. After all, the two had been almost insperable for a year. They had been on many lunch "meetings." They had worked together at church. They had done church outings together. They had still been talking on the phone. But there had been no mention of love. In fact, the guy still seemed to be hung up on someone else he had liked since high school. Little did she know, God had been working in the heart of the preacher boy. He had been fervently praying for a girlfriend, and God had been consistently bringing this girl to mind. However, he kept saying, "No, not her, God. She's just my friend."

Well, finally, the night came - January 31, 1997. The girl had no idea how to dress because she still had no idea if this was a real date. She wound up wearing a sweater and jeans after much debate and calls to other friend's dorm rooms. At the appointed time, her phone rang, and the guy was in the dorm lobby. She opened the hall door, and with one look at him, she knew it was a date. He looked so nice - plaid shirt and khaki pants. She was swooning on the inside. Halfway through the movie, any doubts she had about this "meeting" being a date were dispelled when he reached over and held her hand. All she had been waiting for was finally happening!

And it was worth the wait. Fifteen years of marriage later, I can tell you God perfectly picked out this preacher boy for me! God perfectly picked the timing, too. Four and half years after this first date, we had the happiest wedding day anyone could imagine (even though it was raining cats and dogs)! Not every day has been easy. Not every day has been a fairy tale. But every single day has been planned by God. His timing is always perfect. His plans for us are always good. I wouldn't trade this life for any other! Happy 15th anniversary, Stewart! I love you to the moon and back!

"Many waters cannot quench love, rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned." (Song of Solomon 8:7)
