#Sabbaticchronicles2016: Living Water

I write to you today from one of my most favorite spots on earth. Eleven years ago, Stewart and I were given the opportunity to use the mountain cabin of Bev and Larry Lau, some of our church members in Forestburg, Texas. When we first heard of their second home in Colorado, we never imagined we would go there only to long to go back again. When I say it is beautiful, that doesn't even scratch the surface. It is the most peaceful place we have ever been. The cabin has all the rustic charm you would expect in a mountain home. But my favorite part is the view. This is the "backyard" -

And now, eleven years later, here we are (finally) again - experiencing this place with our two boys. Both of them are enamored with the water. Zach has spent nearly every waking moment on the deck watching the river go by or throwing driftwood into it. He got so excited the other night when two families of geese swam right by and then as they came back this morning while we were eating breakfast. Every time Evan has been on the deck, he has tried to dive out of my arms into the water. Needless to say, he has had to spend time in the GoPod when we go outside so we don't lose him. He also enjoys standing up at the picture windows overlooking the river and yelling at the top of his lungs.

This place is almost magical to me. I have sensed the Lord all around us since we've been here. And Bev and Larry have decorated this house to make sure all who stay here experience the same thing.

Stewart commented on the drive up that water is essential for life. As we passed through west Texas, one could tell which fields had been watered and which ones had not. Water is essential for our human lives, too. Since we've been in this higher altitude, I've noticed that I've been drinking more water. We must stay hydrated! And spiritually, we must stay hydrated, too. Being near the river has reminded me that when we are connected to Jesus, "rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John‬ ‭7:38‬ ‭NIV‬) We have been given this time to be refreshed so we can return home and share the Living Water with those around us. This is our time to experience the Living Water new and afresh.

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt we are supposed to be right here at this time in our lives. I am praying that the Lord does what is needed in all of us during this sabbatical. He has been so faithful to provide for this trip from beginning until now. I pray we all honor Him during this time.

On the fun side, we are LOVING all of your #stewartonastick pictures! (If you haven't seen them, just go to Facebook and search #stewartonastick. You will be blessed!) Keep on taking Stewart with you on all of your travels! Or shopping trips. Or labor and delivery rooms (It really happened!). We may not see them immediately because we have zero cell reception at the cabin, so we have to go into town to see social media or text messages. In fact, I'm at a local library posting this right now. Thank you for your continued prayers, love, and encouragement!
