Mountains Move

I received this email the other night and burst into tears. I am posting the text of the email here mainly so I won't lose it. Just this morning my devotional instructed me to write down even the smallest victories of the Lord. This is one of them.

Rebecca,

Last Sunday morning as I walked from my Sunday School room down the preschool hallway to the early worship service, I passed by the nursery. As I walked past the door, I saw that Evan was taking steps, walking toward one of the nursery workers, who was waiting to take his hands. When he got to her, all the teachers cheered! There was such joy on their faces and in their voices! It was that special joy that comes from the hearts of people who have prayed fervently and longed in their hearts for this time to come—and now it has! I was excited to see Evan’s new accomplishment that I had heard about!

Then I went to the worship service, and there was Evan’s mama, singing, “If faith can move the mountains, let the mountains move; we come with expectation, waiting here for You ….”

In my mind as you sang, I could see Evan taking steps and hear his teachers rejoicing just a little distance from us. I wished we had a camera set up to show on our screen in the gym what was happening in the room where Evan was—while you were singing! He was the picture of expectation and faith and waiting, of promises kept by our faithful God—and more to come.

My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him;

for my hope and expectation are from Him.

Psalm 62:5, AMPC

What would be a "mole hill" for most kids is a mountain for Evan. When we climb one of those mountains, we celebrate like we've climbed Everest, even if it's a small hill. While we were at Texas Children's Hospital Monday, Evan played with a shape sorter and put the shapes in the correct places. We were amazed. Then he picked his own color of bandage. Again, these are small things to most people, but we were just thrilled. Every little step is a reminder that God is still moving mountains in Evan's life. And we wait with expectation for the next mountain to move.

Another milestone - Evan is finally able to sit on his Daddy's shoulders!
