No Small Potatoes

I heard on the radio the other day that a photograph of a potato sold for $1.5 million because photographer who took the photo was so famous that someone was willing to pay that price. For a picture of a potato. A potato.

My father-in-law Charles was a master gardener and potatoes were one of his big crops. One year, he had such large potatoes that he weighed them and wrote the measurements on the potatoes. Some of them were quite large, coming in at 6 or 7 pounds a piece. Needless to say, many potatoes were consumed in Stewart's family that year.

Three years ago, the Master Artist and Gardener sent this small potato to the world:

He came weighing a tiny 6 pounds and 13 ounces, not much more than one of Papa Charles' potatoes had been. He changed our world, no doubt. Nothing has been the same since. He may not be a work of art to some, but he was fearfully and wonderfully made by the Master Artist. (Psalm 139:14)

And in the past three years, the Master Gardener has been growing him and changing him and teaching him. While the world can't see most of the growth, the Gardener knows what He is doing. He has plans for this little potato that the world cannot see. The Artist and Gardener has had these plans before the beginning of time. And they are good plans that will reflect the Master perfectly. (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10)

Evan's life is no small potatoes. He is important to God. He bears His image. He is His handiwork. Evan is priceless to Him and to us. And we are so grateful that the Master gave him to us! Happy third birthday, Evan!
